How FEMA uses G.I.S. in disaster response….
In the last decade thee has been an overwhelming number of natural and unnatural disasters which have occurs in the UNited States. Wether it is the not so rare occurrence of a tornado in the midwest, or the unnatural events of 9-11, FEMA is always counted upon to be at ground zero, along with the red cross and other emergency services. With the use of G.I.S., the emergency responce GIS team (E-GIS) has the ability to act quickly with prompt timing to ground zero.
Some of the map types are…
-torm track and damage prediction maps
-remote sensing maps
-maps of federally-declared counties in an affected state
-basic census demographics about an affected area by county
-census blocks
